The best part of the Whale Watching season is comi The best part of the Whale Watching season is coming up, make the time to get out and see what’s out there. A good stretch of weather is ahead for the next few days. The weekend, keep an eye on the forecast. Check the local Whale watches for who is going out.
Sometimes you can predict where a lunge feed will happen. Capturing the whole process from the start, Menhaden getting nervous. To finish, a giant whale gulping down hundreds of these nervous Menhaden. It is tough being the most important fish in the sea, everybody wants you.
A sequence of a lunge feeding humpback from 2020-08-06 shot on the American Princess Cruises whale and dolphin watch.
Hurricane Lee is on its way out! We had some epic Hurricane Lee is on its way out! We had some epic surf and now the waves are quickly subsiding as Lee is drifting away. We have a serious ground swell out there. the Buoys in the area are reading 4ft-6ft at a duration of 14-16 seconds. WOW, a 14-16 second wave duration - we will take these conditions every day!

A ground swell is different from a local wind swell. Groundswell waves are faster, further apart, less steep, thicker, and more powerful than short-period swells created by local winds. The longer the period of the wave the less you feel its effects while on a boat out on the ocean. What does this mean and why are we talking about it? Well, we ride on boats to go whale watching. These whale watching boats are at the mercy of the ocean. Some days ocean conditions are better than others. We would take 5-6ft+ @14 seconds over a 2-3ft 6 seconds (chop) any day!
Check the Whale Watch in your area to see if they are going out. The @americanprincesscruises is going out today, both trips and Sunday. See you out there!
Hurricane Lee is pushing some big swells our way. Hurricane Lee is pushing some big swells our way. Long duration waves will be hitting our shores creating an amazing playground for surfers up and down the coast. Not a good situation for Whale Watching boats stuck in port due to these conditions. If you have plans to go out Whale Watching this week, check to see if the trip has been postponed.
