Encounters between vessels and marine mammals are becoming more frequent – and riskier. Many of the whales in our NYC Humpback Whale Catalog have been documented with propeller scars from interactions with vessels. As whales continue to become more common in our busy waters, it's important that everyone does their part to keep themselves and the whales safe and sound. Eyes on the Water: Boating with Whales is a free online course that equips new and experienced boat captains with the knowledge to protect themselves, their passengers, and the whales we share our waters with.
